Walks in and around Atworth

Atworth History Group published a booklet of Six Walks in Atworth Parish in 1995 which is now out of print. In order to make these walks more widely available the walks have been updated and modified where necessary to cope with changes that have taken place and are now available to download, free of charge, via the group's website.

The Group hopes to include other walks around the parish/local area at a later date.

Where appropriate the brief historical details that distinguished the original walks have been retained and where feasible extended, alongside the walk directions. All the walks are circular. The majority of the walks follow public rights of way, but in order to design circular routes a small amount of road walking is necessary in some cases – please take extra care.
Map referencing using the Ordinance Survey system has been used in the text and it is recommended that walkers use the relevant OS Explorer map number 156 (Chippenham & Bradford) to accompany the walking guide sheets.

Please follow this abbreviated version of the Countryside Code:

  • Park considerately
  • Take only photographs – no plants or flowers
  • Leave only footprints – no litter
  • Leave gates as you find them
  • Keep dogs under control & on leads where farm animals are in the fields
  • Stick to the rights of way – right to roam exists only on common land

c Atworth History Group 2013.
The Group has published these walks based on current information, but changes and alterations to paths, field boundaries and other landmarks cited may change over time and walkers will need to use their judgement in such circumstances.
