In 2005-06, the Wiltshire County Council Independent Group was made up of the two elected independents on the council, Christopher Newbury and John Syme (Warminster West). Before the May 2005 elections, the group had three members, with Philip Allnatt from Chippenham as the third. John Syme resigned from the Council on 19 September 2006, due to other commitments. This left Christopher Newbury as the only elected independent, so in the County Council there is now no Independent Group.

At West Wiltshire District Council, there is an Independent Group of two members and also two other ungrouped independents.
