Stamp collecting is not boring
Stamp collectors do not usually expect to be hear stories of train crashes and drive by shootings. But members of the Warminster Philatelic Society were entertained with these and many more at their first meeting of the 2009 season. Their new chairman, Peter Todd, told of his six months in Kosovo in 2000. He had witnessed many events such as these, but still managed to send letters home from a war torn land where the postal system only was only just operational. Peter showed how passionate he was about stamp collecting. His enthusiasm was evident from the whole of his display. He told of the garden party he attended at Buckingham Palace this year, hosted by the Queen. He explained how he had managed to trace the history of soldiers who featured in First World War postcards. He remembered his working days and led us on a journey around many of the army camps across Wiltshire. He regaled us with stories of some of the early
Presidents of the USA, all brought to life through postcards and envelopes sent through the post. This first evening of the season was rounded off with wine and cheese, a pleasant start to what promises to be an entertaining and exciting year.
