Whats On

In April and May 2009 - please visit our main site and add YOUR name to pledge support for an APPROPRIATE train service across Wiltshire (Swindon, Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster and Salisbury). There's a real prospect of a better service if we can show support!

The "TransWilts" railway line links the five largest population centres in Wiltshire, and many other commmunities too. Train use grew dramatically from 2001 to 2006 under the Wessex Trains franchise - trains that were quiet had become busy. The map below shows the TransWilts line in green. Bus routes are shown in thinner lines. Very thin lines to tourist attarctions are shown where a taxi is journey is necessary. One dot represents 3 minutes of travel time.

In December 2006, First Great Western as the new franchise operator WITHDREW all trains except the 06:18 and a train at 18:45 from Swindon, which run to Westbury only, and traffic on these inappropriately time trains has slumped. It takes 95 minutes from Melksham to Swindon now using First's bus - but it used to take 25 minutes using their train. Journey times from Chippenham to Salisbury are now 2 hours by bus, with a change at Devizes, as opposed to 50 minutes by train - and so it goes on
