Whats On

The West Wiltshire Rail Users Group was formed to give a voice to West Wiltshire Rail Users on timetables and level of service and fares on our railway network. We are not funded by any other group and rely purely on membership subscriptions; membership is open to all and costs £5 a year to cover printing and postage. Members receive 4 newsletters a year and there are 4 Public Meetings each year three of which are on 'burning issues of the day' and one being the Annual General Meeting.

WWRUG were instrumental in saving the Bristol/Waterloo service by conducting a survey proving that usage was greater than Government figures suggested. The problems mainly causing difficulties at present are:- First Great Western's teething problems on taking over the franchise. Overcrowding on the Bristol/Weymouth line. Failure of sufficient trains to stop at Melksham and Dilton Marsh. Difficulties with the new summer timetables.

If you wish to be a member please contact the Secretary Bob Lee (address, phone number and e-mail on this site. Rail travel is the way to keep down carbon dioxide levels and so it should have the full environmental stamp of the Government. The new December 2007 timetable for FGW is in action after a shaky start. Melksham station still has the meagre service as before but we hope for a Swindon/Salisbury service late in 2008; this would provide Melksham with a better service. Dilton Marsh has lost out in the timetable revision particularly in the Salisbury direction but again the Swindon/Salisbury link would help . Bradford on Avon has now got most trains stopping at the station...good news. South West Trains have now introduced an extra Waterloo train so you can now catch the 9.30 ish train from Westbury or if it suits you can go lunch-time ish and there are two return times too.......this is a great vindication of WWRUG's successful campaign to keep the Waterloo service and now we have expansion of the service! Thank you SWT. You can find out more news about the stations locally...Warminster, Dilton Marsh, Westbury, Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon, Avoncliff and Melksham including live departures by accessing our website...www.wwrug.org.uk. There are many more links on the site and we ask you to consider signing our government petions under 'actives' on the site. Details of our public meetings in 2008 will appear in the diary for wiltshire community web. Join us today.....The perils of indifference are so great for our environment! Bob Lee 17.12.07
