Bradford-Norden German Twinning Origins

The seeds for Bradford on Avon’s first Town Twinning partnership were sown in 1967, when our town Rowing Club made a pioneering visit to East Friesland to compete in Norden with sportsmen from their WSV (Water Sports Association), as well as a Frisian team from Leer. Friendships blossomed rapidly, with a return visit of Norden canoeists to Bradford on Avon the following year. Both of the Town Councils wanted to benefit from this growing momentum, so a formal Twinning Charter was signed in Norden Town Hall on 11th August 1969.

Every August a Charter Lunch is organised by Bradford on Avon German Twinning, to commemorate the inauguration of this twinning link.
